Urban Hot Spot - Salumi

What draws us to Salumi? The fact that is was owned by famous Chef Mario Batali's father and is now owned by his sister? Perhaps. The absolutely delicious sandwiches served for lunch? Partly. For their absolutely gluttonous 2.5 hour private party lunch? Yes indeed!!

Last week, after our good friends Erik and Amy booked this back in April, we were able to participate in the private lunch experience at Salumi. We, along with 6 of our friends, snuck by the long winding line and into the super special back room. We were greeted with a sampler plate of their cured meats, olives brined in house, fresh bread and wine. From there we moved along to a delicious crustini, several vegetable dishes, a cold and spicy soup, a mouth watering pappardelle with thick Guanciale, and into the main course of meatball mixture stuffed crisped pork belly on a bed of spicy greens and garnished with Pancetta wrapped brocollini! In-cred-ible! And we finished with wine poached pears and figs with Culatello.

If you are looking for a special occasion lunch spot and love meat, this is the place for you!

Lake Union Park Grand Opening

On Saturday September 25th from 7am to 7pm, Lake Union Park will celebrate it's Grand Opening!

Gather at our new water front park along with the City of Seattle, Seattle Parks Foundation, The Center for Wooden Boats, MOHAI, and the The United Indians of All Tribes for the dedication of this beautiful new outdoor space.

The celebration will include two stages of musical entertainment, model boat races, Native American songs and BBQ, Seattle food vendors, environmental education, sailing demos, and more!

So grab friends or family and head down to enjoy Seattle's newest park on the beautiful shores of Lake Union.

Seattle Waterfront Designs

Interested in what will happen to Seattle's waterfront when the decaying Alaskan Way Viaduct comes down?

Just attend the public presentation on September 15th at Benaroya Hall at 7pm. Here, the City-selected 4 finalists will present their ideas, skills, experience and approach to redesigning the 9 acres of new public waterfront space and the surface street on Alaskan Way that will be created by the removal of the Viaduct. The public will also be able to ask questions of the designers at this presentation.

The Pike Place Market's Artisan Food Festival celebrates local Washington grown and produced foods, beer, and wine.

Woodlawn Park Zoo Wine Event Benefit

The fabulous Woodland Park Zoo will be throwing an after hours wine tasting event as a benefit for the Zoo.

Friday August 27th
5:00-8:30pm
$20 tickets

What can you expect?
The North Meadow of the Zoo will be filled with 30 Washington wineries who will offer tastings and allow you to chat with the winemakers about their wines. Your $20 admission fee will get you 10 1 oz. tasting tokens and you will be able to purchase additional tokens for only $1 each! If you love what you tried and cannot live without it, no need to fear! The wines you taste will be available by the bottle for sale. Also available for sale, small bites from Lancer Catering. Live entertainment will set the scene and you will be able to cruise through the zoo's Northern Trail exhibit.

Wallingford to get Regions Biggest Wine Store

According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, Wallingford will be getting the Wine World Warehouse, which could be the region's largest wine store.

The store will be housed on 45th St under the Cosmo apartments near the freeway. It will be 23,000 square feet of wine, tasting bars, espresso, meeting rooms, wine accessories, chocolate, cheese, charcuterie and a demonstration kitchen. It is being opened by sommerlier David LeClaire.

Downtown Seattle is Going to Get a Target

For those of you that live or work in Belltown or Downtown Seattle, shopping for everyday items is about to get a lot more convenient.

According to the Seattle Times, Target has purchased the commercial space in the base of the Newmark Condo building located at 1415 2nd Ave between Pike and Union. This store will be smaller than most Target locations but is a great addition for those living and working in the core of the city. There is no store like it currently in Downtown and Target moving in shows the confidence that retailers have in our City Center.
